The Stone

Silver Obsidian is a variety of obsidian — natural volcanic glass rather than a crystalline mineral. It is composed mainly of amorphous silica (SiO₂) with small amounts of Al₂O₃, FeO and Fe₂O₃. It is black with a silvery sheen, has a vitreous luster, is translucent to opaque, and breaks with a conchoidal fracture. Its Mohs hardness is about 5–6, with a specific gravity around 2.40. The silver shimmer comes from light reflecting off aligned microscopic gas bubbles trapped in the glass during rapid cooling. Major sources include Mexico, Iceland, and the western United States.

Obsidian has been used by humans since prehistoric times for tools and weapons because it can be knapped into extremely sharp edges. In Mesoamerica, obsidian held particular cultural significance: the Aztecs used it for mirrors and sacrificial blades, and ancient Mexican priests were said to use silver obsidian to open a "door to the soul," while warriors carried it as a talisman for protection and insight. In modern metaphysical practice, silver sheen obsidian is regarded as a grounding and reflective stone associated with self-reflection and protection.

The Belief

The Water Element

Silver obsidian is traditionally associated with grounding, protection, and quiet self-reflection. Many people wear it as a reminder to stay centred when things feel unsettled, and to look inward without fear. It is not a promise of outcome — it is a small, steady cue to hold your ground and see clearly.

In the Five Elements framework, silver obsidian belongs to Water — the element of depth, intuition, and reflection. Water is not always calm on the surface, but beneath it there is stillness and clarity. Silver obsidian carries that quality: a reminder that depth is not emptiness, and that the quietest reflections often reveal the most.

FAQ

Is this a real natural stone?

Yes. Every Aquamarine bead is made from natural stone. Minor variations in color, clarity, and inclusions are part of the material — no two pieces are exactly alike, and we don't use dyes or synthetics to mask those differences.

When should I wear it?

It's designed for everyday wear — put it on when you're starting something new, before a conversation you've been putting off, or on any day you want a small reminder to keep moving.

What is your return / warranty policy?

We accept returns within 30 days of delivery for a full refund, provided the item is unworn and in its original packaging. If your bracelet arrives with a defect, contact us within 7 days and we will replace it.

For full details, see our Returns & Exchange Page.

How do I choose the right size?

Measure your wrist circumference just below the wrist bone using a soft tape measure or a piece of string. Add about 0.5–1 cm for a comfortable fit. Our bracelets are available in 6.5", 7", and 7.5" — if you're between sizes, we recommend sizing up for a more comfortable daily wear.
