The Stone
Burmese Jade (jadeite) is a pyroxene mineral with the chemical formula NaAlSi₂O₆. It has a Mohs hardness of 6.5–7.0 and a specific gravity of about 3.3–3.4, with a vitreous luster and a tough, granular interlocking structure . Gem-quality jadeite comes almost exclusively from northern Myanmar, particularly the Hpakant region.
In Mesoamerica, the Olmec peoples carved jadeite figurines and celts as early as 1000 B.C., and the Maya and Aztecs revered green jade as a symbol of life, purity, and royal authority—the Aztecs considered it the most valued of all substances . In New Zealand, Māori prized pounamu (greenstone, a nephrite jade) for tools, weapons, and ornaments, using it as a sign of status and authority and exchanging named heirloom weapons to seal peace agreements . In Japan, jadeite magatama (comma-shaped beads) date back to the Jōmon period, and by the Kofun period they became part of the imperial regalia .
The Belief
The Wood Element
Burmese jade is traditionally associated with calm strength, balance, and a quiet sense of renewal. Many people wear it as a reminder to stay steady under pressure, to move forward without force, and to trust that growth happens in its own time. It is not a promise of outcome — it is a small, steady cue to carry calm and resilience with you.
In the Five Elements framework, Burmese jade belongs to Wood — the element of growth, renewal, and upward movement. Wood does not rush; it reaches toward the light slowly, season after season. Burmese jade carries that quality in a grounded form: a reminder that growth can be patient, and that steady progress is still progress.
